CineCitizen Media was founded in 1998 by Erica Ginsberg as an independent video and new media production company. Ginsberg has lived, studied, and worked in the Washington DC area since 1974. In addition to film and video, she has a background in international relations and many of her projects reflect an interest in international or inter-cultural issues.
Ginsberg recently produced Crucible of War, a documentary focused on how ordinary people in the Balkans have been rebulding their lives after a decade of war and displacement. It was screened at film festivals and academic conferences throughout the United States and several in Europe and is currently being distributed by the National Film Network. Ginsberg also co-produced and directed Talking Threads, a web documentary about student reactions to 9/11. Her current project is Avenue of Aspirations, about the development and living history of a major thoroughfare in Washington DC. Ginsberg also co-founded Docs in Progress, an organization dedicated to promoting independent documentary filmmaking in the Washington area through bimonthly public workshops where documentarians showcase their works in progress in feedback sessions with audiences.
In addition to her own productions, Ginsberg has worked on informational and training videos for the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (formerly the U.S. Information Agency). One of these videos, Vital Link: the International Visitor Program and You won a Communicator Award of Excellence and has been distributed to embassies worldwide.
Ginsberg has also worked on the Washington Jewish Film Festival and as a research assistant on Aviva Kempner’s The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg and Catherine Wyler’s Witness to Hope. She holds an M.A. in Film and Video from American University and a B.A. in International Affairs from the George Washington University. She has also studied film in the Czech Republic and political science in Ireland. She has been the Vice President for Programming for Women in Film and Video-DC and currently serves on the organization's Board of Directors.
